CANDLELIGHT VIGIL to note the 4th Anniversary of the U.S. Invasion of Iraq

Sunday, March 19, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Square at the corner of Main & Alvarado

This is a vigil, not a protest, and it will last no more than 30 minutes. Greg Ballerino will be the facilitator of the candlelight vigil, to welcome and express why we are conducting the vigil. Those who would like to speak may make a short comment on "What I hope and dream for the future of my country." This is the third time we have conducted this vigil, and past events have been very moving and honorable. Please plan to attend.

Jess Durfee, Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee to Meet with Fallbrook Democrats

Jess Durfee, Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Central Committee, will give a brief talk to the Democratic Club of Greater Fallbrook about the direction of the San Diego Democratic Party and take questions from the audience. Durfee comes to political action through his 15-year career in education as both a high school teacher and administrator. During his
tenure, he became involved with the teacher's union, was active in the National Education Association and Washington Education Association and has also served as a congressional aide for education and labor issues. Under Durfee's leadership, the San Diego County Central Committee has developed and implemented a long-range strategic plan for the County Party and also reorganized its structure for greater effectiveness and inclusiveness.

Avocado Festival - We'll have a booth!
Volunteers Welcome

Sunday, April 23, 2006

We've reserved a booth and we're really excited about making our presence more visible in the community! We'll have information about the club and its activities, conduct a membership drive, and have candidates for local offices present to meet, greet, and inform. Thanks to Eric and Angelique Strahan for taking charge of this event. Contact Eric & Angelique at strahan@adelphia.net to volunteer for a short and fun shift in the booth!

We have lots of Democrats and progressives who don't like to come out at night - so please visit us at the Avocado Festival, and remember to bring $5.00 to renew your 2006 Club Membership!

Featured Speaker: Jim Brown of Veterans for Peace

Jim Brown, past president of San Diego Veterans for Peace, will talk about the Arlington West Memorial that will be held in Fallbrook on Memorial Day - May 29.

He will also talk about his experiences with the Veterans for Peace efforts in New Orleans, as part of the Katrina disaster recovery efforts. Brown had been at Camp Casey this past summer. On their way to Washington after Camp Casey disbanded, Katrina hit New Orleans. Brown and other Veterans for Peace arrived in New Orleans well in advance of FEMA or the national Red Cross. They began relief efforts and Brown stayed to help with the resurrecting of homes. He's been back to New Orleans many times, restoring buildings as well as spreading anti-mold health and safety practices.

Arlington West at Live Oak Park
Volunteers Welcome

Monday, Memorial Day, May 29th, 2006 - daytime,
Live Oak Park, Fallbrook (on Reche, between Live Oak Park Rd & Gird Rd)

You've seen the very moving news clips about the Arlington West memorials: members of Veterans for Peace place monuments (Crosses, Mogen Davids, and Crescents) in the ground for each U.S. Serviceperson who has lost their life in the Iraq War. Well, our very own Jon Monday, Vice President of the Fallbrook Democratic Club, also a member of Vets for Peace, has arranged to conduct this very powerful visual memorial event on Memorial Day, right here in Fallbrook!

Contact: Jon Monday, jon@mondaymedia.org
We need volunteers to help place the 2400 or more monuments. We also need volunteers to help read the names of each of the lost servicepersons. Please plan to attend, and better yet, take part in this moving and patriotic memorial event.
